About The Position

This position is responsible for the supervision of housekeeping services in a large state institution. This includes developing, coordinating, supervising, and managing effective housekeeping, environmental sanitary, and related programs. The role involves planning, organizing, and reviewing the work of a staff engaged in these programs, making recommendations for staffing and budgetary needs, and developing and applying technical procedures and standards to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. Responsibilities also include managing linen distribution, developing training programs, controlling the use of meeting spaces, overseeing sewing and upholstering services, and assigning employee quarters.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of housekeeping services, including safety principles, practices, and techniques required to maintain cleanliness in an institution for patient care and treatment.
  • Thorough knowledge of housekeeping procedures, equipment, and agents necessary to maintain a clean and sanitary hospital environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise the work of a staff engaged in housekeeping services.
  • Ability to evaluate staff work for compliance with instructions, work procedures, and techniques.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and maintain an in-service training program for employees engaged in housekeeping and environmental sanitary services.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective housekeeping procedures and standards for a clean and sanitary hospital environment.
  • Ability to ascertain the effectiveness of, and make recommendations relative to, new products, equipment, and techniques in the sanitary and economical accomplishment of housekeeping services.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an adequate method of control and distribution of linen, including instructions for aseptic handling.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and professional staff of the institution served.
  • Graduation from a college of recognized standing, including or supplemented by completion of courses in hotel or institutional management.
  • Employment in a responsible management position involving direction and control over a large and complex housekeeping program in a hospital, hotel, or residence school, including the organization and maintenance of standards, procedures, work methods, and schedules.
  • Any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • CHEST certification preferred.
  • At least 5 years of supervising a staff of janitors and housekeepers in a healthcare facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assigning quarters to employees (except doctors) in accordance with regulations.
  • Performing related work as required.
