About The Position

Warren Wilson College is seeking a hands-on Supervisor of Construction and Project Management to help guide and coordinate a wide range of construction and facilities-related projects from start to finish. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being in the field, working closely with contractors and student crews, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on budget and on schedule. In this position, you’ll oversee daily construction activities, coordinate vendors and a crew of 10-15 college aged students, track project progress, and help ensure that work meets quality standards and organizational expectations. You’ll play a key role in keeping projects organized, communicating updates, and helping resolve issues as they arise. The right candidate brings practical construction experience and a strong ability to manage multiple moving pieces at once. You’re someone who communicates clearly, keeps things on track, and doesn’t hesitate to step in and solve problems. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • North Carolina driver’s license.
  • 3 years experience in at least one skilled construction trade at journeyman level.
  • Hold a current General Contractor’s license, or be able to obtain it within 12 months of employment.
  • 3 years prior supervisory experience, at the level of crew leader or above.
  • Knowledge of proper chemical usage and safety precautions.
  • General knowledge in carpentry, painting, and building services.
  • Knowledge of local and state building codes.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects or work orders simultaneously.
  • Ability to interpret basic construction drawings and specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in construction management, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
  • 10 years prior supervisory experience, including at least 5 years at project superintendent level or above.
  • Demonstrated experience in construction cost estimating, with foundational exposure to budgeting, procurement, and project estimating processes.
  • Documented experience training and leading young and /or inexperienced construction trades workers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and directs student labor and contractors as part of completing operational maintenance tasking, and operating budget and capital maintenance, repair and renovation projects.
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises the completion of assigned capital and maintenance projects.
  • Identifies ways in which the department can become more sustainable.
  • Works with the Director of Facilities Management and the Operations Coordinator to ensure operational expenses are kept within approved budgets.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and tools, supplies, and parts.
  • Periodically performs audits to account for loss and improve control of inventory.
  • Follows current policies for use of credit cards, purchase orders and obtaining prior authorization for expenses; assists with reconciling credit card statements; collects and submits receipts and check requests to the office of Administration and Finance.
  • Assist the Work Program Office (WPO) with recruitment and orientation of student crew members.
  • Provide or arrange for crew member safety training in compliance with OSHA standards, especially in the areas of chemical usage, equipment and tool handling and general safety procedures.
  • Coordinate, communicate and monitor student work schedules, approve student timecards by payroll schedule deadlines, and plan for and delegate appropriate tasks to student crew members.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with students.
  • Guide students through the learning and performance goals and evaluations process in a timely manner, mentor students to support their professional and educational development.
  • Attend WPO supervisor orientation, retreat and training.
  • Collaborate with WPO staff to problem-solve any student crew issues that may arise.
