This position supervises nursing home staff and nursing activities, including resident care and record-keeping. The supervisor assists in managing the nursing staff assigned to a particular shift within the nursing home and takes action regarding the provision of resources within the context of shifts or designated time frames. Responsibilities include assigning residents to available nursing staff, considering the resident's condition and the employee's skill level, and monitoring resident care areas and other nursing home facilities for cleanliness and readiness. The role may involve filling in for clinical support staff when staffing gaps exist and serving as a point of contact for technical training and troubleshooting for staff, dependent on staffing needs. The supervisor is responsible for utilizing and ensuring staff follow the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to clients. This involves collaborating with other inter-professional colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement, and evaluate care, encompassing personal care management, medication administration, care planning, scheduling physician visits, setting up appointments, and working with clients, families, home health services, county, and state offices to assure client needs are met. The role also assists and supports human resources administrative processing and procedures with staff management, may assist with providing feedback in the collection and preparation of required budget information, and assists in conducting new staff training and orientation regarding operating rules and working standards. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of clinical practices, strategic planning, administrative, and financial principles, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to recognize problems, recommend solutions, react calmly and effectively in emergencies, and interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. The supervisor is accountable for following up with risk management and training of clinical staff as needed, and has knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. They participate in reviewing results of clinical performance assessments, recommend process improvements, and implement established performance improvement policies, training employees on these policies. The position functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure, adhering to the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association.
