About The Position

This role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) who is passionate about helping others and desires to develop leadership skills. The position is part of a collaborative leadership team and requires strong collaborative practice with staff and leadership. The role involves providing work directions to staff, coordinating resources for efficient operations, and promoting quality patient care. The supervisor will act as a liaison between medical staff and nursing staff, coordinate physician needs, and mediate issues. They will also evaluate patient care quality, ensure policies and procedures are followed, and collaborate on process improvement. The role serves as a clinical resource, develops orientation and continuing education programs, and provides input on equipment and budget needs. Additionally, the supervisor supports Shared Leadership functions, performs human resources responsibilities including coaching, performance reviews, and recommending hiring, compensation, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • At least 3 years of RN experience
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Provides work directions to the staff with clear responsibility for the coordination of resources to efficiently support procedures, day-to-day operations and the smooth flow of patients through the department.
  • Promotes an environment conducive to the delivery of quality patient care. Advocates for rights of patients and staff.
  • Promote communication among patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff to optimize the interdependence of all team members. Coordinates the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between the medical staff and the nursing staff by serving as a problem solver and mediator.
  • Develop and maintain effective intra- and inter-departmental relationships. Facilitates positive communication with medical supply companies and their representatives.
  • Evaluates the quality of patient care provided in the specialty area through collaboration with unit and organization resource people. Ensuring policies and procedures are following those of the medical center, the nursing department, and regulatory agencies.
  • In collaboration with the manager, conducts ongoing process improvement.
  • Serves as a clinical resource contact for patients, families, nursing staff, other health care members and external agencies.
  • In collaboration with departmental and organizational staff, develops department orientation and continuing education programs for all staff. Teach and guide staff. Assists with various teaching programs.
  • Provides input regarding equipment/supply needs, renovations, and environmental issues in preparation of operating and capital equipment budgets.
  • Supports Shared Leadership and its functions related to Nursing Evaluation, Peer Review, Policy/Procedures, and Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
