About The Position

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Ortho/Spine/ Bariatrics Unit. This is a full-time day shift position, 7a-7p. A sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 is available for qualified candidates. The 1 East Surgery Unit is a 24-bed unit specializing in orthopedics, spine, and bariatrics, designed for high-quality, short-stay care. The team also cares for high acuity surgical patients from Endoscopy, General surgery, and GI. The average patient stay is 1 to 2 days. RN staff can expect a 1:5 or 1:6 patient ratio and an average of 6 to 8 patient discharges per shift. It is a well-staffed, fast-paced environment that values ongoing staff development through a comprehensive orientation program. Managers and educators meet biweekly to refine learning strategies and enhance clinical skills, making it an excellent environment for both experienced RNs and new graduates. The team is supported by Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) who assist with 8 to 12 patients and help with ambulation, labs, and other patient care tasks. Dedicated Unit Coordinators and experienced preceptors foster a nurturing learning environment for skill development, professional growth, and long-term career advancement. Our surgeons and team are nationally recognized for excellence through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), which involves in-depth independent peer evaluations and promotes uniform standards and continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Students in process of obtaining degree in Registered nursing
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in progress of obtaining licensure
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • 1 year of acute care nursing experience preferred
  • No experience required
  • Previous healthcare experience in GI, Endo, Surgical, stepdown, or pre/post preferred

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process.
  • Adhere to the standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation.
  • Uphold the standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
