About The Position

The Supervisor, Maintenance of Way (MOW) is responsible for ensuring the overall safety of the assigned track territory. This role involves conducting daily risk assessments regarding track safety, assigning and overseeing repairs, and addressing employee issues. The primary goal is to ensure a safe track structure to maintain efficient freight and passenger train operations.

Requirements

Possess a Technical College diploma, preferably in the civil engineering or construction management field, or equivalent work experience.
Qualified or ability to become qualified in Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
Certified or ability to be certified in Track Inspection.
Minimum 5 years' track work or track engineering related experience.
Minimum 3-5 years' managing a workforce, planning, executing, and overseeing work.
Expert knowledge of inspection and construction practices.
Good computer skills are a definite asset.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Committed to company health and safety.
Must be able to adapt to changing priorities and workloads.
Must be available to work some off-hours emergency calls and irregular working hours, i.e. daily starting and quitting times must be flexible.
Experience working unaccompanied with considerable outdoor exposure in all weather conditions.
Must be available to travel frequently, approximately 90% of the time.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must pass criminal record check, employment references, and education verification.

Responsibilities

Plan, assign, oversee, and verify that work is completed to standard and that track is safe for train operations.
Perform inspections on all aspects of the track structure including turnouts, culverts, roadbed, crossing surfaces, crossing sightlines, and other potential hazards.
Report and document all inspection findings and corrective and/or protective actions.
Analyze risk on a daily basis and determine the course of action to protect train operations.
Ensure regulatory requirements for their territories are completed and inspections are logged into the inspection system.
Work with and coordinate track maintenance with internal/external customers including MTO and municipalities so as not to interrupt their operations.
Ensure proper billing of third-party work is completed.
Investigate and report on all injuries/incidents that occur on their assigned territory and provide/implement corrective actions.
Verify and approve all work hours, vacation, and sick days for the work crews working on their assigned territory.
Deal with union issues related to their assigned territories (grievances, work rules, etc.) and provide input to the bargaining committee on work rule changes.
Complete regularly scheduled inspections of bunkhouses, tool-houses, fire equipment, and ensure Health and Safety bulletin boards are organized and up to date.
Complete work observations of work crews to ensure compliance with safe work procedures and workplace policies.
Attend health and safety meetings/tailgate meetings.
Educate employees on their assigned territories about any hazards or trends related to safety.
