About The Position

The Supervisor Laboratory role at Aurora Medical Center Manitowoc is a full-time position responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department. This includes providing work direction, expertise, and guidance to staff, overseeing clinical laboratory testing, evaluating results, and ensuring testing proficiency. The role involves active participation in projects for strategic initiatives, including implementation and development of quantitative outcomes, and monitoring budget compliance. The supervisor will analyze laboratory fiscal needs and departmental performance, taking action to address variances. Collaboration and implementation of performance improvement processes to optimize teammate engagement and satisfaction are key. Ensuring quality, regulatory, accreditation, compliance, and competency standards are met, along with adherence to current policies and procedures, is essential. The position also coordinates orientation, training, and competency testing for staff and students, and maintains personal competency in test systems and processes within their area of responsibility. The supervisor serves as a technical resource for staff, complies with the quality plan by implementing and monitoring quality indicators, and reviews laboratory results for quality, accuracy, and validity, implementing corrective actions as needed. Additionally, the role involves selecting, coaching, and developing the team, setting clear expectations, managing performance, and making recommendations for hiring, compensation, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations. The supervisor is responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and ensuring compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and laws.

Requirements

• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC), or Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent accrediting agency.
• Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology or equivalent
• Typically requires 3 years of experience in technical laboratory services and operations.
• Demonstrated leadership skills including project management, decision making, delegation, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to grow leaders through coaching, guidance, and development planning.
• Advanced knowledge of regulatory compliance, accrediting and licensing agency requirements.
• Current knowledge of medical and technical advancements to plan for future growth and development.
• Intermediate computer skills including knowledge and experience with laboratory information systems.
• Excellent organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensures compliance with current policies, procedures, and standardization and/or consolidation decisions.
• Coordinates orientation, training, and competency testing of staff and/or students.
• Maintains competency, as needed, in test systems and processes in defined discipline for area of responsibility.
• Serves as a technical resource for staff.
• Complies with the quality plan by implementing and monitoring quality indicators.
• Reviews laboratory results for quality, accuracy and validity.
• Documents and implements corrective action as appropriate.
• Selects, coaches, and develops team.
• Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team.
• Manages performance by recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary.
