About The Position

The Supervisor, Laboratory General is responsible for the daily supervision of high complexity testing personnel in compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations. This role involves direct oversight of laboratory operations, troubleshooting technical issues, ensuring quality control, and verifying that all testing personnel perform competently.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a laboratory science or technology required
  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification required
  • 2 years in high-complexity testing

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a laboratory science or technology preferred
  • MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Specialty certifications (e.g., Blood Bank, Microbiology) preferred.
  • Supervisory Experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision of testing personnel performing waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing.
  • Ensures all laboratory staff maintain competency in their assigned testing areas.
  • Assists in the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of staff.
  • Provides technical training and mentorship to laboratory coworkers.
  • Exhibits strong leadership characteristics, consistent with SIH’s values.
  • Completes department required continuing education annually.
  • Oversees adherence to CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory standards.
  • Monitors quality control and investigates deviations in testing procedures.
  • Ensures all proficiency testing is performed, reviewed, and documented correctly.
  • Assists with regulatory inspections and compliance audits.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues related to instrumentation, reagents, and procedures.
  • Assists in evaluating new test methods and instruments.
  • Implements process improvements to enhance laboratory efficiency and workflow.
  • Assists with scheduling and staffing to ensure adequate test coverage.
  • Maintains inventory and supplies for the department.
  • Supports test verification, validation, and implementation of new procedures.
