About The Position

Do you enjoy working in a busy medical specialty, and doing a variety of tasks in a pathology lab while supervising team members for a smooth operation? Join our histology team as the Lab Supervisor! This position is primarily responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily activities of the employees in the lab. Reports to the Lab Manager.

Requirements

  • Master's or Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical or biological science and 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing; OR Associate degree in medical laboratory technology (or pulmonary function) and 2 years laboratory (or blood gas analysis) training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing.
  • State Licensure if applicable

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years experience as a Histotechnician/Histology Technician
  • 2 years experience in a leadership role

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of those supervised.
  • Provides rotating on-call coverage for all areas of lab workflow as needed.
  • Monitors and evaluates workflow to improve efficiency.
  • Supervises laboratory department schedules and activities. Takes corrective actions to re-direct activities as necessary to maintain high quality productivity.
  • Conducts training and new employee orientation along with Lab Manager.
  • Monitors and facilitates timecards and PTO requests from staff, as well as preparing schedules in advance.
  • Responsible to adhere to and ensure safe lab practices.
  • Troubleshoots instruments and test methods to decide what actions should be taken under direction of lab manager and director.
  • Plans, designs and implements new or improved laboratory processes in conjunction with lab manager and director.
  • Monitors workload tasks daily, evaluating and adjusting workflows to accommodate fluctuations as needed.
  • Encourage team building and maintain morale among lab staff.
  • Assists Manager with Annual Performance Reviews.
  • Clearly and efficiently communicate lab needs and updates to management.
  • Responsible to record and keep all QC/QA documentation as applicable.
  • Assists with lab issues involving outside labs, providers, or staff.
  • Assists Manager with courier coordination and transport.
  • Regular supplies checks (expired reagents, spill kit, etc)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
