About The Position

This position works under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director. The Supervisor Laboratory Technical supervises and oversees the operations of their sections by scheduling staff, directing work assignments, supervising ordering of supplies, overseeing and/or writing policies, and performing and/or supervising the maintenance of instruments and equipment. In addition, performs the duties of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and other duties as assigned by the Pathologist or Laboratory Director. Performs several duties with personnel management, including training, counseling, teaching, performance appraisals, and discipline. Maintains department compliance with established Hospital safety standards and assists with coordination of safety in-services and participates on related committees. Oversees implementation of any new testing and/or methodologies. Assumes the role of Director in the absence of the Director. Supervises and may perform all tests within the laboratory sections for which they have responsibility, including quality control procedures and documentation. Organizes workflow within sections to achieve optimal usage of assigned personnel. Plans and organizes daily operations and procedures, monitors turnaround times, and maintains and updates policy and procedure manuals. Troubleshoots equipment, performs preventive maintenance, and assists in evaluating new equipment. Assists personnel with complex problems, reviews abnormal results and quality control logs, and serves as a resource person. Documents and reports events/problems to the Laboratory Director and provides input for solutions. Maintains inventory for their sections and applies Hospital’s Policies and Procedures regarding guest relations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences, Medical Technology, or the equivalent is required.
  • A current Clinical Laboratory Scientist license required.
  • Five years of hospital laboratory experience in General Laboratory testing including methodological details and quality control is required.
  • Minimum of three years of leadership (coordinator, lead, supervisor, or manager) experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards preferred.
  • Quality assurance and quality improvement experience is preferred.

  • Documents and reports to the Laboratory Director events/or problems that are encountered and provides input as to possible solutions.
  • Maintains the inventory for their sections.
  • Applies the Hospital’s Policies and Procedures regarding guest relations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or indicated.
