About The Position

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking a Supervisor, Laboratory Medicine in New York, NY. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the day-to-day work of microbiology laboratory personnel. The supervisor will oversee routine and specialized technical procedures, evaluate work performed, and address procedural and technical laboratory problems to meet the needs of clinical staff and patients. Key responsibilities include monitoring Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Safety, and Inspection Control practices to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations. The supervisor will manage area operations, prioritize workflow, and assign staff to meet laboratory demands. This includes preparing work schedules, consulting with managers on specimen protocols, and directing staff activities. The role involves training, evaluating performance, providing guidance, and fostering staff development. Ensuring staff compliance with all laboratory standards, policies, and procedures, including those of regulatory and accrediting agencies, is crucial. The supervisor will review policies, assess employee competency, and implement corrective actions. They will also identify training needs, develop and implement training plans, and perform audits to ensure accuracy. Designing data collection methods for quality assessment, preparing quality assessment reports, and maintaining technical superiority in all laboratory operations are also key duties. Verifying patient identification, completing documentation, and producing accurate reports are required. Additionally, the supervisor will evaluate and select new laboratory equipment, oversee maintenance, and troubleshoot equipment issues. They will stay informed about new equipment, recommend purchases, and supervise the maintenance of all equipment in assigned areas, responding promptly to breakdowns. Ensuring staff compliance with all laboratory safety guidelines, including infection control, standard precautions, chemical safety, and radiation safety, is paramount. One day of remote work per week is permitted.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Medical Technology or a closely related field.
5 years of experience in the position offered or related.
5 years of experience performing and analyzing clinical specimens in a microbiology laboratory.
NYS Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.

Identifying aspects of care provided by the laboratory and suggesting indicators and criteria for review.
Designing methods of data collection for quality assessment.
Preparing quality assessment reports.
Maintaining technical superiority in all aspects of laboratory operations.
