Supervisor, Janitorial / $ 21 - $ 24 Hourly Range + Benefits
About The Position
The Supervisor oversees and supervises the entire Janitorial operation of the Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Knoxville, TN, ensuring that all items listed in the Performance Work Statement of the contract are fulfilled and performed to expectations. When needed, cleans and keeps in an orderly condition assigned areas and washrooms, or premises of the VA facility. Duties may involve a variety of tasks including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing floors, removing trash, dusting equipment and furniture, polishing metal fixtures, providing supplies and minor maintenance services, and cleaning lavatories, showers, and restrooms. The role also involves assisting with waxing/stripping floors quarterly, occasional travel between facilities, submitting various reports (Monthly Status Reports, employee lists, bi-weekly hours reports), creating daily work schedules, reporting unsafe conditions or incidents, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Requirements
- Must be able to pass a background investigation and be cleared to work in a VA Medical Facility.
- Must have a Real ID or passport to gain facility access clearance.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ supervisory experience of Janitorial operations.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is required.
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances required.
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components required.
- Superb attention to detail and conscientiousness.
- Must adhere to all safety and environmental procedures.
- Must become knowledgeable of the fire alarm system of buildings.
- Must be able to work day and evening shifts.
- Must successfully pass a drug test (upon hire and random).
- Functions well around patients, staff and visitors in a clinical setting.
- Proven past experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role.
- Very good physical condition and strength.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

- Removes chips, trash, and other refuse.
- Dusts equipment, furniture, or fixtures.
- Polishes metal fixtures or trimmings.
- Provides supplies and minor maintenance services.
- Cleans lavatories, showers, and restrooms.
- Assists with waxing/stripping floors on a quarterly basis.
- Submits Monthly Status Reports detailing the Contractor's performance.
- Submits a continuously updated list of employees and their hourly tours of duty.
- Submits bi-weekly report of employee hours to Payroll Supervisor.
- Creates and maintains a daily work schedule for each janitorial employee and Janitorial Lead.
- Notifies Accord Federal Management of any unsafe or hazardous conditions, incidents, or equipment problems.
- Provides a written report of any incident involving Contractor personnel to Accord Management within 24 hours.
- Contacts appropriate parties in the event of an emergency situation.
- Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and standards related to janitorial services, including health and safety guidelines.
- Ensures that subordinates are neatly groomed and dressed to present a professional appearance.
