The Supervisor, Husbandry will be responsible for managing and overseeing the operations of colony facilities, animals, and staff involved in daily husbandry support. This role requires adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and all applicable regulatory requirements. The Supervisor will also be involved in developing, revising, and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and integrating the Employee Handbook into daily job performance, embodying the company's values.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience with animal husbandry, handling animals, and/or veterinary supportive services.
  • At least 2 years working in a research environment.
  • At least 1 year training employees.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to effectively comprehend and communicate (verbal and written) in a professional manner.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain organization in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to successfully operate independently with minimal guidelines.
  • Demonstrate people and project management capabilities.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • All applicants must possess valid work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the operation of colony facilities, animals, and staff who provide daily husbandry support.
  • Comply with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and all regulatory requirements applicable to the position.
  • Develop, revise, review, and implement SOPs as applicable to the position.
  • Observe appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and governmental regulations.
  • Observe appropriate safety and health practices including personal protective equipment and barrier requirements.
  • Perform daily Quality Control inspections of animal areas.
  • Monitor room climate conditions, equipment function, and facility issues related to animal housing.
  • Oversee and maintain regulated equipment (maintenance, repairs, and documentation of equipment).
  • Oversee animal care, maintenance, and shipment activities to ensure work is done correctly, and to identify and solve problems.
  • Maintain raw data and provide data when needed for research.
  • Assist with inspections from USDA, AAALAC, FDA, and CDC.
  • Plan and prepare work schedules, assign workers to tasks such as feeding and treating animals, cleaning rooms, transferring animals, and maintaining facilities.
  • Oversee training, development, and fulfillment of training records/documents for direct reports.
  • Attend training programs to become more knowledgeable of and develop expertise in laboratory animal science.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; corrective action; addressing and resolving concerns.
