About The Position

The Supervisor, Husbandry will manage and oversee the operation of the colony facilities, animals and staff who provide daily husbandry support. They will engage in the conduct of or responsible for the supervision of a non-clinical laboratory study shall have the education, training and experience, or combination thereof, to enable that individual to perform their assigned functions. They will comply with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and all regulatory requirements applicable to the position. The Supervisor, Husbandry will develop, revise, review and implement SOPs as applicable to the position. They will also understand and incorporate the information contained in the Employee Handbook into day-to-day job performance and strive to demonstrate the Company’s values in all work-related activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and experience with animal husbandry, handling animals, and or veterinary supportive services.
  • At least 2 years working in a research environment.
  • At least 1 year training employees.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to effectively comprehend and communicate (verbal and written) in a professional manner.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to successfully operate independently with minimal guidelines.
  • Demonstrate people and project management capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Observe appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and governmental regulations.
  • Observe appropriate safety and health practices including personal protective equipment and barrier requirements.
  • Perform daily Quality Control inspections of animal areas.
  • Monitors room climate conditions, equipment function and facility issues related to animal housing.
  • Oversee and maintain regulated equipment (maintenance, repairs and documentation of equipment).
  • Oversee animal care, maintenance, shipment activities to ensure work is done correctly, and to identify and solve problems.
  • Maintains raw data and provides data when needed for research.
  • May assist with inspections from USDA, AAALAC, FDA and CDC.
  • Plans and prepares work schedules, assigns workers to tasks, such as feeding and treating animals, cleaning rooms, transferring animals, and maintaining facilities.
  • Oversees training, development, and fulfillment of training records/documents for direct reports.
  • Attend training programs to become more knowledgeable of and develop expertise in laboratory animal science.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; corrective action; addressing and resolving concerns.
