About The Position

The Grounds Supervisor is to assist the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent with the maintenance, operation and management of the golf course(s). In the absence of the Assistant Superintendent, it is the responsibility of the Grounds Supervisor to ensure that all areas of the operation are functioning appropriately. This position manages key Grounds Associates, Interns, Irrigation Technician, and Spray Technician. The incumbent provides overall assistance in daily scheduling of activities pertaining to the total staff, as well as being responsible for the satisfactory completion of activities under his/her control. This position must also perform accurate record keeping and manage the pesticide and fertilizer application operations assigned to his/her area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices.
  • Working knowledge of facility construction principles, practices and methods.
  • Thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • High degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
  • Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations - including but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards and laws and regulations.
  • Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days and trade shows.
  • Excellent oral and written English communications skills.
  • Ability to apply agronomic understanding to carry out and administer turfgrass programs and procedures.
  • Ability to deal with ever changing challenges on a minute by minute basis and instigate necessary corrections.
  • Ability to associate cause and effect agronomic relationships in daily golf course maintenance operations.
  • B.S. degree in Agronomy or Ornamental Horticulture preferred.
  • An Associate Degree in Turf Management a minimal requirement.
  • Two year certificate or higher (turf related field).
  • Attendance and certification at various GCSAA educational seminars useful.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in all facets of golf course maintenance, ideally at a highly ranked golf facility.
  • Tournament preparation experience useful.
  • Knowledge of personal and /or desktop computer useful.
  • Some knowledge of Spanish helpful in the performance of this position.
  • Must have minimum two year certificate or A.S. from a recognized turfgrass program.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Spanish helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in the Superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence.
  • Daily management of the assigned staff reporting to this position includes scheduling and completion of tasks in a productive and high quality manner that meets the Trump Organization golf course standards.
  • Training and developing all staff regarding equipment operations and utilization, performance of tasks and on-course conduct.
  • Maintain and manage all aspects of the pesticide and fertilizer record keeping operation.
  • Supervise and assist with all pesticide and fertilizer applications to ensure safety and desired application rates are achieved.
  • Assist in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline.
  • Lead by example by mentoring, training and developing staff to successfully achieve the principles of the Trump Organization golf course standards.
  • Tour the total golf course on a regular basis to understand the quality expected by the Trump Organization and that which has been produced by the staff.
  • Attend local Superintendent Association seminars and meetings to keep abreast of improvements and trends in the industry.
  • Plan and implement all aspects of the Grounds operations for the respective area of responsibility in the absence of the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Determine the most efficient and effective deployment and utilization of assigned personnel, equipment and materials.
  • Determine the playability of the golf course when adverse weather conditions exist, and to close the course for play when necessary, communicating such action to Golf Operations staff.
  • Represent the Superintendent at internal functions and meetings in his/her absence.
  • Interact with and properly relate to all levels of personnel within all other departments of the club.
  • Possess appropriate communication skills and sensitivity to enable proper communication with and response to members/guest questions, suggestions, etc. regarding golf course conditions and operations.
  • Supervise all pesticide and fertilizer applications to ensure the proper rate of the desired product was applied correctly, requiring walking and at times on difficult terrain.
  • Document and record information daily following all applications.
  • Follow up on every task assigned to each employee to ensure the task was completed and performed as described.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, contractors, architect/shapers, and especially the course Superintendent during construction projects.
  • Keep accurate and complete records, including but not limited to, payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, fertilizer and pesticide applications, any and all local, state or federal employee training documentation, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations.
  • Communicate, coordinate and meet with all relevant membership groups and committees.
  • Coordinate operations with the Golf Professional.
  • Maintain a safe and accident-free workplace through training, education and monitoring of all employees.
  • Assimilate into Trump National Doral Miami Cultural Foundation through understanding, supporting and participating in all elements of the Trump Cornerstones.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the service standards.
  • Provide “Lateral Service” when needed to ensure customer satisfaction.
