About The Position

Responsible for the supervision of union and non-union employees and contractors in the preventive and corrective maintenance of company-owned/leased vehicles and equipment. Duties include diagnosing vehicle and equipment system discrepancies, operating company vehicles and equipment, ensuring timely performance of preventive and corrective maintenance, providing a safe and clean work environment, adhering to EPA/EPD guidelines, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience in automotive technology, diesel mechanics, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a medium-to-large inventory of fleet vehicles and equipment providing preventive and corrective services on a medium-sized fleet of automobiles, light/medium/heavy duty trucks, and construction equipment
  • Two (2) years of supervisory, team lead, or experience coordinating the work of others
  • Valid driver's license

  • Associates degree or technical school degree preferably in automotive or related field
  • Experience in developing bid specifications and contract administration

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, assign, and supervise the work activities of subordinate staff to achieve company goals and ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Ensure repairs and services are completed efficiently to maximize fleet unit availability for operational requirements.
  • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance plan to minimize life-cycle costs and maximize fleet availability.
  • Assist management in the creation and execution of the Fleet Capital Replacement Program, including equipment specifications.
  • Ensure Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) work orders are created, updated, and reviewed for preventive/corrective maintenance and warranties.
  • Coordinate and monitor outsourced repairs for efficiency, economy, and proper execution.
  • Ensure employees have the necessary equipment, materials, and resources for safe and efficient job performance, and maintain accountability of company-owned tools.
  • Approve orders for parts, materials, supplies, and equipment for repair and maintenance functions, and maintain accountability of shop supplies.
  • Respond to unusual or emergency situations to maintain equipment for emergency events.
  • Review subordinate work performance against established standards to determine production levels, training needs, and inform personnel actions.
  • Develop employees through goal setting with clear expectations, measures, achievements, and documentation in Taleo performance management software, providing regular feedback.
  • Coach, counsel, schedule, and evaluate employees to ensure proper training (safety, skill improvement, standard specifications) and meet performance expectations. Research training opportunities to maintain expertise and ensure ASE certifications.
  • Approve time and attendance information for assigned staff, including work hours, PTO, and procurement card purchases.
  • Maintain knowledge of current technology, repair methods, and equipment through continuing education via classes, conferences, meetings, seminars, and workshops.
  • Review, update, and develop work instructions to improve task efficiency.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the bargaining agreement and associated policies and procedures.
  • Establish and report performance metrics for Fleet activities.
  • Review safety protocols and training, inspect facilities and work for safe conditions, and report safety violations.
  • Review repairs for potential warranty reimbursements and identify patterns indicating potential issues for procedural or specification changes.
  • Assist in the creation and/or update of specifications and contracts for Fleet activities (e.g., repair contracts, tire purchase contracts).
  • Ensure upkeep and maintenance of company-owned fuel sites, ancillary equipment, and associated contracts. Review and approve internal and external fleet fuel orders.
  • Coordinate Fleet surplus disposals and related activities.
  • Supervise support functions and personnel, including maintenance truck drivers and surface repair leaders, street plate inventory, and concrete cement silo operations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
