About The Position

The Supervisor, Energy Geoscience leads a team of professional geoscientists responsible for effectively regulating industry activities related to the development and management of oil and gas reservoirs while ensuring resource conservation and protection of correlative rights. The role provides operational and technical leadership for the Energy Geoscience program area and provides expert evaluations, recommendations, and technical advice to BCER leadership, industry, government, and external stakeholders. The Supervisor provides geological leadership to support the continuous improvement of related legislation, regulations, and policies in response to evolving technologies and practices. The role analyses emerging plays, unconventional reservoirs, and new technologies, to assess regulatory impacts, develop appropriate strategies, and provide leadership on complex geological matters, including hydraulic fracturing, induced seismicity, and resource and reserves determinations. Operating in a complex and continually evolving environment, the Supervisor balances resource conservation with responsible resource development to support the effective stewardship of BC’s oil and gas resources. The role provides authoritative geological guidance to industry on matters such as pool delineation and mapping, regulatory requirements on oil and gas well data gathering, and related sub surface matters, while fostering collaborative relationships that support effective regulatory outcomes. The Supervisor provides advice to BCER executive on complex applications falling under the Commissioner’s authority, to develop recommendations for policy and legislation revisions. Working collaboratively with ministries, government agencies, and other jurisdictions, the role provides technical and regulatory advice with respect to policy development and revision and legislation impacting the oil and gas resource.
