About The Position

The Supervisor of District Athletics & Student Activities provides leadership, coordination, oversight, and support for all district-wide athletic programs, with a particular focus on middle school athletics. This role ensures compliance with Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regulations, promotes equitable and safe athletic opportunities for students, oversees district athletic policies and procedures, and supports school-based athletic directors and coaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletics Administration, Physical Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Eight (8) years of related professional experience in implementing or administering Physical Education, athletics and extracurricular programs.
  • Five (5) years of administrative or supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of rules established by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA).
  • Knowledge of middle and high school athletic program administration.
  • Knowledge of current practices in the delivery of middle and high school athletics programs.
  • Knowledge of athletic program evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of leadership strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and update district wide athletic program policies, procedures, and guidebooks.
  • Oversee compliance with district, state, federal, and Title IX expectations, including monitoring gender equity compliance across programs.
  • Support the development and revision of school board policies related to athletics and interpret existing policies to ensure consistency across schools.
  • Lead the annual review and revision of Gateway Conference guidelines, Middle School Conference procedures, and the District Athletic Policy & Handbook.
  • Assist in serving as district liaison to FDOE, FHSAA, FIAAA, and FACA.
  • Provide district-level leadership for student government organizations and extracurricular programs by establishing, implementing, and monitoring districtwide expectations, procedures, and operating guidelines for student-led organizations and activities at the middle and high school level.
  • Lead and support the coordination of middle school athletic programs across the district, including 25 schools, 14 sports, and nearly 7,000 student athletes.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with middle school athletic directors, coaches, and officials, and support high school meetings as needed.
  • Conduct school visits to provide on-site support, including safety checks, facility walkthroughs, and reviews of student athlete eligibility documentation.
  • Offer ongoing training, guidance, and technical support to school-based athletic directors and coaching staff.
  • Respond to inquiries from district staff, parents, community groups, and community members, and collaborate with principals to resolve concerns.
  • Support schools in designing student government organizations and extracurricular programs that promote career exploration, leadership pathways, and student choice.
  • Develop and analyze participation and outcomes metrics to assess the impact of student government organizations and extracurricular programs on postsecondary readiness, workforce skills, and civic engagement, using data to guide program improvement and district strategic planning.
  • Oversee annual coach certification processes, including reviewing required exams and supporting the Testing Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with staff development teams to deliver in service and professional learning opportunities for athletic personnel.
  • Provide sports medicine–related training for middle school athletic directors and coaches, including EAP reviews, CPR checks, ECG screenings, and other safety practices.
  • Lead regular meetings with athletic directors to support planning, coordination, compliance, and professional development.
  • Coordinate athletic training services, safety protocols, and medical readiness requirements across district programs.
  • Support schools in planning and coordinating athletic facility projects in collaboration with district staff.
  • Support schools in monitoring athletic equipment inventories and coordinate the distribution and delivery of equipment as needed.
  • Assist with developing specifications and bid requests for athletic uniforms and equipment; review bids, assist with vendor selection, initiate purchase orders, and meet with vendors as needed.
  • Provide training, coaching, and resources for faculty advisors of student government and extracurricular programs.
  • Assist schools by developing guidelines for scheduling athletic contests and oversee districtwide scheduling processes.
  • Coordinate districtwide scheduling, facility use, transportation logistics, and event personnel assignments, including officials.
  • Support schools with crowd management procedures in partnership with school board police and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Attend district athletic events—including middle school championships and Gateway Conference tournaments—and represent the district at community meetings as needed.
  • Manage online platforms for middle school athletics, including: Aktivate (eligibility, coach certification, scheduling), Arbiter (officials’ assignments), ArbiterPay (officials and game day payments), and GoFan (ticketing).
  • Through on-going school support, serve as a district advocate for student leadership and engagement.
  • Oversee district athletic budgets, financial reporting, grants, and fundraising initiatives in partnership with schools.
  • Review school athletic budgets and assist schools in identifying and developing fundraising opportunities.
  • Assist in preparing districtwide summary reports, including game and contest attendance, sports budgets, athletic equipment inventories, and conduct reports.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
