About The Position

Directly supervises the staff of the community services programs and manages the oversight of the food pantry programs. Monitors all the various program operations including service delivery, personnel, health and safety. Working with the local Area Director, develop and maintain good relations with the United Way, various key constituent groups and other service providers in the community. Help develop new programs that are consistent with the Mission of Catholic Charities and help secure funding from United Way and other donors or grantor organizations. Provide direct services as assigned and necessitated by circumstances and keep the Area Director informed of problem issues, successes and needs of the community service programs on a regular basis. This position is for 25 hours a week.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Bachelors Degree in social work or related field.
  • Two (2) or more years experience in the daily operations of community based social service programming.
  • Judeo-Christian concern for and ethical understanding of client needs.
  • Initiative, maturity and flexibility.
  • Ability to accept instructions and apply them in a logical and responsible manner and make productive use of time.
  • Sensitivity and respect for populations of individuals who may be considered marginalized regarding their socio-economic, emotional, physical and spiritual backgrounds and the ability to work within a team concept and within the philosophy of the Catholic Charities mission.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Area Director in the hiring, training and scheduling of new staff and volunteers.
  • Supervise community services staff on an individual basis, provide team meetings and perform staff evaluations.
  • Work with the Area Director in resolving human resource issues within the community services programs.
  • Provide direct services as assigned or necessitated by circumstances.
  • Plan schedules for pantry staff, food pick up and mobile deliveries.
  • Provide direction and support to pantry staff in the areas of food safety and distribution.
  • Maintain all necessary credentials for food distribution and ensure staff do the same.
  • Provide direction and support to pantry staff in the areas of cleaning and trash disposal.
  • Actively communicate with the supervisor regarding pantry shortages, special needs, etc.
  • Maintain inventory, manage rotation and prepare orders as appropriate.
  • Maintain pantry equipment and alert supervisor for maintenance immediately.
  • Monitor all aspects of community service program operations including service delivery and health and safety issues.
  • Implement all applicable Agency policies and procedures and recommend changes to the Area Director.
  • Research potential funding sources for community services programs and assist in preparing requests for funding.
  • Maintain and monitor data for program reporting.
  • Help develop new programs that are consistent with the mission of Catholic Charities.
  • Regularly inform the Area Director of the successes and problems of the community services programs.
  • Work positively and cooperatively with appropriate Agency personnel in upgrading the quality of existing programs.
  • Develop and maintain good relations with United Way, various key constituent groups and other service providers in the community.
  • Treat clients with respect, dignity and firmness with regard to the pantry and distribution guidelines.
  • Maintain regular communication with regular donors i.e. church secretaries, and make contact as needed to maintain pantry supplies.
  • Assist supervisor with media opportunities, speaking engagements, public meeting attendance and networking with various community groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
