About The Position

Reports to Manager, Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services. Responsible for the coordination of ambulatory clinical pharmacy programs including, but not limited to, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacotherapeutics, pharmaceutical care, and drug information services. Responsible for the collaboration of multidisciplinary care teams to monitor, assess, recommend changes to, and optimize medication use in areas of therapeutic specialization. Assists in the development of therapeutic drug policy and supervises implementation of corrective strategies necessary to contain drug costs. Responsible for continuous quality improvement activities of ambulatory clinical pharmacy services. Participates in the development and implementation of Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services policies and procedures and in the development of future goals and objectives for ambulatory clinical pharmacy practice in concert with Brown University Health’s strategic plan. Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
Prior to start date, possesses current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist or as a licensed 90-day temporary pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.
Obtains full licensure prior to expiration of 90-day temporary pharmacist license, then possesses and maintains current unrestricted licensure as licensed pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.
Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology and personal computers including word processing, databases, and spreadsheet design.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MS, MPH) or completion of American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited PGY2 residency preferred.
Successful completion of Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) Residency from an accredited program in area of specialty and national board certification in area of specialty within 1 year of hire.
Three years clinical experience, knowledge, and development may be considered in lieu of formal training, in which case national board certification in area of specialty or Pharmacotherapy will be required within 1 year of meeting board certification eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

Coordinates and supervises the delivery of established ambulatory clinical pharmacy services.
Reviews and analyzes services provided, develops, and implements changes to increase level of service provided and efficiency.
Contributes to strategic planning for enhancement and expansion of ambulatory clinical pharmacy services.
Implements and interprets relevant ambulatory clinical pharmacy policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
Supervises the implementation and integration of patient-focused ambulatory clinical pharmacy care services in collaboration with pharmacy managers and key constituents.
Provides input to drug and therapeutic class reviews to optimize drug use and maintain compliance with medication use guidelines.
Coaches professional staff on pharmaceutical care and pharmacoeconomic principles to enhance safe and cost-effective medication use.
Ensures that ambulatory clinical pharmacy services support established standards of care, meet, or exceed patient care quality standards, and consider the aging processes and human developmental stages (neonate, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric) of the patient populations served.
Ensures that computerized systems, software programs, and specialized equipment and technologies utilized in drug information and evaluation processes are maintained appropriately.
Participates in recruitment, retention, performance enhancement, and competency assessments in collaboration with the Manager, Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services.
Oversees and is responsible for orientation of new employees.
Directs and oversees the coordination and development of schedules and assignments for student precepting and didactic lectures.
Develops and administers staffing schedules to optimize efficient workflow.
Ensures that day-to-day staffing is commensurate with services provided and patient populations served.
Develops tools and standards to establish and improve competency levels of ambulatory clinical pharmacist specialists in their areas of therapeutic specialization.
Provides guidance and direction to ambulatory clinical pharmacy personnel, in collaboration with Manager, Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services.
Participates in annual performance appraisal process for ambulatory clinical pharmacy team members.
Tracks completion of ambulatory clinical pharmacist specialists continuing education credits to ensure they meet Rhode Island Board of Pharmacy (RI BOP) collaborative practice agreements (CPAs) requirements for the areas in which they practice.
Responsible to provide effective written, verbal, timely, and accurate communications to staff, management, and key stakeholders, as appropriate.
Maintains working knowledge of leading-edge developments in pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacoeconomic principles, and pharmaceutical care concepts.
Leads relevant committees, task forces, and performance improvement teams as assigned.
Prepares papers for presentation at professional organization meetings, submits manuscripts for publication in professional journals, and authors articles for publication on the Pharmacy Web site.
Perform other duties as assigned.
