Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or education equivalent required
  • Two years’ experience working in an airline operational capacity or similar experience
  • Demonstrated skill in preparing written and verbal communications
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation and/or OSHA regulations
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years’ experience in safety preferred in Industrial and/or Occupational Safety
  • OSHA 10/30
  • Experience in conflict resolution and decision making and supervising others
  • Formal cause analysis or investigation training
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and administer the station Airport Operations Safety program with the objective of reducing occupational injuries, minimizing aircraft and equipment damage, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to front line leaders and coworkers to maximize support partnerships with cross divisional operational/hub/station leadership towards accomplishment of safety goals, implementation and maintenance of safety initiatives, and to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory agency procedures and standards.
  • Complete all mandatory regulatory and Company required documentation of activities.
  • Attend, support and lead division/unit/group safety meetings, and participate on collateral safety projects.
  • Ensure front line coworkers are delivering on service, performance and safety objectives set by the company and station.
  • Oversee the station safety advocates and Line Operation Safety Audit (LOSA) team.
  • Act as facilitator to the station led Safety Action Teams.
  • Act as liaison with Flight Ops, In Flight and Tech Ops safety teams.
  • Engage front-line coworkers to foster a safety culture; participate in briefings, and develop team communications.
  • Set expectations with front-line coworkers and gain their commitment to act in accordance with Company guidelines and labor agreements.
  • Lead performance dialogues with front-line employees to review metrics, safety communication boards, and work area hazard logs to ensure safe behaviors.
  • Identify issues and engage in structured problem solving to assist front-line employees in accomplishing work.
  • Conduct trend analyses, review key metrics and take actions to address items not on track - lead performance dialogues with front-line employees to review metrics, safety boards and safety communications.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure priorities are understood and acted upon, with clear turnover for continuity across shifts.
  • Support and promote Ground Safety Action Program (GSAP) and any action plans requested by GSAP Event Review Committee.
  • Provide technical guidance and interpret company guidelines and procedures and/or union agreements to assist employees in performing functional tasks and to ensure that safety, security and service are delivered consistently.
  • Ensure and support Safety Management System (SMS) Risk Assessments are accomplished for policy and procedure changes at the station.
  • Identify, address and issue appropriate and timely corrective action in accordance with guidelines.
  • Conduct routine investigations, as appropriate, into performance, safety (damages and injuries), complaints and other work issues.
  • Recognize and document performance.
  • Partner with Business Partner safety leaders to define and address performance impacting shared goals and service delivery to United's customers.
  • Participate in peer, safety and accident review boards.
  • Confront and address inappropriate behavior and performance issues with specific coaching and feedback.
