About The Position

Supervise the daily operations of patient intake and/or admissions, which may include call and referral management, scheduling of assessments and admissions, completion of benefit verification, and prioritization of completion of all pre-certifications. For the assigned shift, the role involves planning, assigning, supervising, and performing duties to ensure patient safety and department efficiency. This includes prioritizing potential admissions based on patient needs and facility capacity, knowledge of milieu management, clinical assessment, diagnoses, and interventions. The role also requires coordination with the business office for financial counseling, providing guidance and direction to staff, ensuring EMTALA logs are completed, and serving as a preceptor for new employees. The position demands a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude, with a focus on resolving patient complaints and prioritizing patient safety.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of milieu management.
  • Knowledge of appropriate clinical assessment, diagnoses, and interventions with patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social service field.
  • Master’s degree in a social services field or RN.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing (if applicable in some states).
  • One or more years’ experience in a healthcare admissions role.
  • One or more years’ supervisory/lead experience in a healthcare admissions setting.
  • CPR certification.
  • De-escalation/restraint certification.
  • First aid certification (may be preferred based on state or facility).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign, supervise, and perform duties to ensure patient safety and the efficiency of the department for the assigned shift.
  • Prioritize potential admissions, considering patient needs and the facility’s capability and capacity to meet those needs.
  • Coordinate with the business office to ensure timely and accurate financial counseling of patients.
  • Provide guidance and direction to staff and encourage mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Ensure that EMTALA logs, if applicable, are completed for each patient seen by admissions.
  • Participate in staff training by serving as a preceptor for new admission team employees.
  • Report shift challenges promptly to AOC, or Admissions Director.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers, acknowledging and working to resolve complaints, and recognizing patient safety as a top priority.
