About The Position

This position is supervised by the Sr. Director of Accounting and supervises the Accounts Payable Clerk and Staff Accountant. The role involves protecting organizational value by keeping information confidential, assisting with audit, tax, and accounting activities to ensure correct reporting and safeguarding of assets. It also includes preparing monthly and annual financial statements and general ledger in accordance with GAAP, preparing and entering accounting entries and adjustments, and recording or directing the recording of all revenues, expenses, and other financial transactions. The position oversees the preparation and issuance of payments to vendors, works with vendors to arrange favorable payment terms, and assists with the preparation and filing of local, state, and federal tax returns. Additionally, it maintains a detailed listing of all fixed assets, facilitates non-financial reporting, develops and oversees a framework to measure organizational performance, facilitates the collection of awarded legal restitution, and performs, reviews, and updates internal controls, policies, and procedures. The role also requires actively engaging with volunteers to support staff and improve the volunteer program, looking for ways to use volunteers for accounting tasks, and acting as an ambassador for the SPCA of Texas.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate the Core Values of the SPCA of Texas on and off the job.
  • BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Three years of progressive experience in an accounting environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with Financial Edge a plus but not required.
  • Experience with data analysis and dashboards a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Alerting the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer to material errors or omissions in the organization’s financial records or lapses in internal controls.
  • Ensuring the deposits are made in a timely manner.
