About The Position

The Supervision Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students, to manage student behaviors, and to perform supportive tasks outside of student instruction.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Previous student supervision experience, preferably working with a diverse population of students.
  • Criminal Justice/Fingerprint clearance
  • Ability to effectively interact with students, parents, staff, and community members, personally, by telephone and through electronic communications, in a welcoming, supportive, and confident manner.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain accurate record keeping.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Must be a trustworthy individual with a high level of integrity and work ethic throughout all duties.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural, ethnic, gender, and religious diversity of students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction and supervision; sound judgment and decision-making capabilities are essential.
  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Greets visitors, parents, students, and staff in a welcoming manner.
  • Supervise students in a variety of settings to include but is not limited to field trips, playground, classrooms, hallways, lunch room, restrooms, health room, offices, bus, gymnasium, parking lot, etc.
  • Supervise safe use of playground equipment; periodically checks equipment for wear or damage, alerts appropriate staff member for needed repairs.
  • Monitor and mediate student disputes; maintains order, and determines and carries out appropriate redirection according to district policy and procedures.
  • Ensure students follow rules and expectation in all areas of the building and grounds; instructs students in proper behavior.
  • Assist with setting up the cafeteria for meal services, cleans up spills, wipes tables, and dismisses students to recess.
  • Perform supportive tasks for the classroom teacher; makes copies, laminates, etc.
  • Accurately assess situations and remain calm during emergencies or stressful situations.
  • Maintain student discipline in accordance with the classroom and school-wide discipline plans.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families and contribute to a positive school climate.
  • Operate according to professional and ethical standards at all times. This includes maintaining a high degree of integrity, confidentiality, courtesy, cooperation, positive attitude, reliability, punctuality, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Arrive to work on time and maintain regular and consistent attendance, adhering to work schedule.
  • Participate in team meetings for the purpose of collaborating and sharing information.
  • Attend relevant training to acquire and maintain up-to-date knowledge of specific job duties, as well as district, state, and federal rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administrator(s), as applicable to this position.
