About The Position

The City of Atlanta Law Department is seeking a Supervising Attorney for its Litigation Division. This role requires extensive experience in civil and employment litigation, including appellate work, and substantial trial experience. The ideal candidate will manage Assistant and Associate Attorneys, handle all stages of litigation, and supervise paralegals and administrative staff. This position involves significant interaction with the Atlanta City Council, various City Departments, and governing bodies of other municipalities. Strong communication, analytical, judgment, professionalism, and interpersonal skills are essential for managing complex legal matters in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or ability to obtain membership within one (1) year of employment.
  • At least ten (10) years of post-graduate experience.
  • At least ten (10) years of litigation experience in general civil and/or employment litigation in state and federal courts, including appellate work.
  • Substantial first and/or second chair trial experience.
  • Experience working with Assistant and Associate Attorneys.
  • Experience managing paralegals and/or administrative staff.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Sound judgment.
  • Professionalism.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to contribute to a litigation team handling complex legal matters in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience drafting legislation.
  • Experience in municipal, county, and/or constitutional law.
  • Demonstrated experience with aviation law.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all stages of litigation including discovery, depositions, and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Manage Assistant and Associate Attorneys.
  • Manage paralegals and/or administrative staff.
  • Draft legislation (a plus).
  • Interact extensively with Atlanta City Council, multiple City Departments, and governing bodies of other municipalities.
