About The Position

The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), established in 1911, is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit international organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants. USCRI, working with nearly 200 affiliates, provides legal, social, and health services to refugees, unaccompanied migrating children, trafficking survivors, and other immigrants in all 50 states, El Salvador, Honduras, Kenya, and Mexico. USCRI advocates for the rights of refugees and immigrants both nationally and globally, helping to drive humanitarian policies, practices, and law. USCRI seeks a Supervising Attorney to assist with its Preferred Communities (“PC”) legal program serving Office of Refugee Resettlement eligible immigrants. The Supervising Attorney will contribute to the activities, supervision, and overall management of the program and provide direct representation to immigrant clients.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with a state bar association.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervision experience, supervising Attorneys and/or staff.
  • Minimum 7 years of immigration law experience.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and editing skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct supervision and support to PC Staff Attorney and Legal Assistants in various locations of the United States.
  • Ensure monthly data reports are submitted timely.
  • Conduct intakes and provide legal consultations to determine legal needs.
  • Prepare and submit affirmative immigration applications for all forms of relief delineated by ORR including but not limited to: Adjustment of Status, Asylum, EADs, and TPS.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other legal service providers and relevant community partners.
  • Conduct outreach, lead trainings, and participate in networking activities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Associate Director of Humanitarian Legal Services.
