About The Position

Siouxland Libraries is seeking a Supervising Librarian to lead learning and development and supervise a team of full-time and part-time employees. The position provides in-depth library service involving extensive public contact and uses a hospitality-focused approach. The role calls for an experienced public service leader who can coach and develop a team through goal setting, regular feedback, and positive working relationships.

The successful candidate will work in a professional environment guided by Siouxland Libraries’ core values: Safety, Teamwork, Innovation, Character, and Respect. The role requires a future-oriented, adaptable, decisive leader with strong communication, organizational, relationship-building, conflict-resolution, and mentoring skills. The position may require evening, Saturday, and Sunday work.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in library science from an accredited college or university, with at least three years of library experience demonstrating progressive responsibility and at least two years of supervisory experience; or an education, experience, and training combination acceptable to the hiring authority.
• Effective leadership skills and the ability to coach and mentor team members.
• Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, orally and in writing.
• Broad knowledge and perspective, including knowledge of how organizations—especially libraries—work and how to achieve results through formal and informal channels.
• Ability to understand organizational culture and the origins and reasoning behind key policies, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to adapt to change, shift gears, and manage risk and uncertainty.
• Ability to make decisions and take action without having complete information.
• Ability to build appropriate rapport across a variety of relationships, use diplomacy and tact, and resolve conflict equitably and promptly.
• Willingness to work evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays as required.

• Use diplomacy and tact to diffuse high-tension situations.
• Work evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays as required.
