About The Position

The Supervising Court Representative provides frontline leadership and oversight of the Court Representative team during assigned shifts at Queens Criminal Court. This supervisory role requires an experienced professional who can ensure operational excellence during high-volume, high-stakes court proceedings while maintaining program integrity and staff effectiveness. The Supervising Court Representative serves as the primary on-site supervisor, demonstrating mastery of all Supervised Release policies and procedures, exercising critical and sound judgement in complex cases, and adapting operations in response to court volume fluctuations and staffing challenges. This position is essential to ensuring and maintaining program quality, overall efficiency, and court relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with relevant court or advocacy experience.
  • Detailed-oriented, thorough and accurate in the completion of paperwork.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates excellence in time management.
  • Computer literate with the ability to quickly adapt to changing technology, and ability to efficiently manage Microsoft Outlook inboxes and teams messages.
  • Well versed in the use of all MS office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend hours required. The program operates 7 days per week.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience supervising staff or leading teams in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Supervised Release policies, procedures, and eligibility criteria.
  • Strong understanding of the criminal legal system, including its structures, procedures, and NYS bail reform statutes, with the ability to explain these processes to people impacted by the legal system in a clear and accessible way.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound judgements in complex, ambiguous, and unprecedented situations.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak confidently and professionally to Court Representatives, as well as on the record in court proceedings.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing and shifting demands.
  • Detailed-oriented, thorough and accurate in the completion of all documentation.
  • Computer proficiency, especially in the use of all Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in-person 5 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Manage shift operations including delegation of tasks, workload balancing, and strategic deployment of staff based on volume and available resources.
  • Serve as first point of escalation for Court Representatives, addressing questions, resolving conflict and determining when issues require senior management involvement.
  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to Court Representatives during assigned shifts, ensuring proficiency in all Supervised Released policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Provide on-the-record responses to the court for challenging cases, high-risk participants, and situations requiring supervisory-level representation.
  • Review and ensure data quality of all Court Representative work, including screening forms, emails, court documents, and database entries.
  • Identify and address errors, discrepancies, and documentation gaps, notifying management of systemic issues or training needs.
  • Foster teamwork and maintain staff morale during high-volume periods and when navigating shifting policies and evolving program requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership by modeling professional conduct, effective communication, strong delegation skills, and collaborative problem solving under pressure.
  • Adapt operational processes and workflow in response to high court volume, staffing shortages and other operational challenges to maintain program effectiveness. This may include supporting the Court Representatives in daily tasks.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships with court personnel including defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges, and court officers, serving as a reliable program liaison and keeping stakeholders apprised of new policies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with CJA’s case management, program analyst and other court representative teams to ensure seamless transitions and comprehensive information sharing.
  • Conduct real-time performance monitoring, providing immediate coaching, feedback and support to Court Representatives to ensure quality service delivery and professional development.
  • Assist in onboarding, mentoring and training Court Representatives in court procedures, CJA programs, eligibility criteria, trauma-informed practices, and effective communication with court stakeholders.
  • Support management in the implementation of new policies, initiatives, and procedural changes.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, supervision sessions, and professional trainings identified by management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Court Operations.
