Supervising Attorney, NYC

Safe Passage ProjectNyc, NY
$105,000 - $120,000Hybrid

About The Position

Safe Passage Project (SPP) is a nonprofit immigration legal services organization dedicated to providing free legal representation to immigrant children facing deportation. Founded in 2013, SPP has grown significantly, now employing over 60 individuals across two offices with an annual budget exceeding $10 million. The organization manages over 1,600 cases annually, having assisted more than 3,000 young people in NYC and Long Island to date. The New York Immigration Courts are among the busiest in the U.S., with over 15,000 juveniles on their dockets, many of whom have experienced severe trauma in their home countries. Unlike adults, immigrant children are not guaranteed government-funded legal representation, leading to more than half appearing in court without a lawyer. Data indicates that 90% of unaccompanied children with legal representation are permitted to remain in the United States, compared to only 15% of those without representation. Safe Passage Project addresses this critical gap by offering direct representation through its staff attorneys and by training, mentoring, and supervising a network of pro bono attorneys. The Supervising Attorney will join a team of dedicated public interest attorneys, playing a crucial role in impacting the lives of immigrant children seeking safety and security. This role involves supervising a team of attorneys and a paralegal in providing legal representation in immigration and related proceedings, including cases involving asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and other forms of immigration relief. The Supervising Attorney will also directly represent minors in their immigration cases and mentor pro bono attorneys.
