About The Position

Under the direction of the site QA Director, the Quality System & Compliance Supervisor at St. Hyacinthe, QC has the responsibility for the coordination, execution and implementation of food safety programs for the second largest manufacturing site in Barry Callebaut. The individual will expertly lead food safety and quality audits for numerous customers and key accounts, certifications and for the GFSI FSSC scheme. He/She will be responsible for HACCP/Food Safety plan development and validation, and other food safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • B.S. in a food safety discipline (Microbiology, Food Safety, Food Science or related field) with a minimum 5 years’ experience in Quality and/or Food Safety including experience in food industry auditing.
  • Experience in the field of food manufacturing;
  • Previous HACCP, PCQI certification program design and implementation is required;
  • Thorough technical knowledge of quality & food safety is required;
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills, analytical ability, leadership strengths and ability to work effectively with a team are required;
  • Computer software skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio required;
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, FSMA, SFCA, Pathogen Environmental Monitoring, FSSC, and Facility/Equipment Design, as well as basic sanitation;
  • Bilingual (French and English) to interact with external stakeholders and colleagues abroad;

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and technical food safety and microbiological support to the site to ensure product safety and quality, through risk assessment, program development and training;
  • Through in-depth understanding of preventive controls requirements under FSMA and SFCA, the individual will work with the QA Director to oversee the requirements of FSMA/SFCA (validations and verifications).
  • Leads the implementation of food safety programs (HACCP, GMPs, Allergens, etc), and supports quality and sanitation programs for the facility;
  • Use expertise to transition the plant from basic HACCP documentation to more comprehensive FSMA/SFCA compliant programs.
  • Identify and communicate food safety risks to site, giving actionable advice on Food Safety programs and incorporating into programs (training platform, site procedures and forms accordingly).;
  • Conduct validation studies of Critical Control Points and Operational Prerequisite Programs and assess validity of data;
  • Conduct risk assessments to determine critical limits for critical processes and collaborate with internal and external resources to update/maintain procedures;
  • Manage and regularly review the Corrective and Preventive Action Program at the plant
  • Coordinate the Internal Audit Program;
  • Liaise externally to ensure most relevant information and emerging issues are identified and incorporated in food safety programs;
  • Directs and coaches the facility leadership team to ensure quality & food safety compliance and has the authority to suspend operations when serious quality & food safety risks are identified;
  • Accountable for HACCP & food safety training for the facility to ensure compliance and execution of required programs;
  • Coordinate the successful completion of external audits and implementation of food safety certifications;
  • Support and takes part in the application of all the actions necessary in order to meet the established and mandatory quality standard requirements;
  • Support all Quality activities and be a backup for the Site QA Manager;
  • Perform supplier, wash station and warehouse audits, if required;
  • Help maintain product safety and reduce risks of food fraud and/or intentional adulteration by preparing material aiming to sustain behaviors that meet the established requirements.
  • Support and lead projects for continuous improvement.
