About The Position

Absher Construction, a respected general contractor with over 85 years of experience and a 100% employee-owned structure, is seeking an experienced Commercial Superintendent. This role will lead complex, large-scale construction projects, specifically including Department of Defense and federal work. The Superintendent will be the on-site leader responsible for planning, sequencing, and overseeing daily field operations for projects valued at $40M+. Key aspects of the role include driving safety, quality, schedule performance, and fostering strong relationships with federal partners, design teams, trade contractors, and internal project teams.

Requirements

Strong field leadership, sound judgment, and deep experience managing complex commercial and federal construction projects
Understanding of the structure, documentation, and accountability required on DoD work
Ability to lead teams in highly regulated environments
Clear communication skills
High standards and pride in delivering projects correctly
Minimum of 8 years of Superintendent experience on commercial construction projects
Proven experience leading projects valued at $40M+
At least 2 years of experience on NAVFAC and/or USACE projects
Strong understanding of federal contracting requirements, QA/QC, and safety standards EM-385-1-1
Experience working in secure and active federal facilities
In-depth knowledge of craft functions and union agreements
OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
Demonstrated commitment to safety, inclusion, and developing future leaders
Strong organizational and documentation skills

Responsibilities

Lead all on-site construction activities from mobilization through closeout
Supervise, train, and mentor field staff, craft labor, and subcontractors
Set clear expectations around safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism
Ensure work is executed in compliance with contract requirements, federal regulations, and project standards
Partner closely with Project Managers, owners, inspectors, and design teams
Manage CPM schedules, pull plans, and detailed look-ahead schedules
Coordinate inspections, testing, reporting, and documentation required for federal projects
Maintain site security, access controls, and compliance with DoD project protocols
Monitor labor, material usage, and field productivity to support project financial goals
Proactively identify risks and resolve field issues before they impact schedule or quality
