About The Position

Watson Excavating Inc. is a third-generation earthwork contractor with deep roots and long-term partners. As a small, hands-on team, they stay close to the field, with owners often seen on site running equipment and pitching in with the crew. Their projects range from commercial and residential to agricultural work, covering clearing, demolition, grading, utilities, and paving prep. As their first Superintendent hire, you will keep up to 4 crews flowing across a unique mix of commercial, residential, and agricultural projects ranging from $50K - $1M. This role blends field know-how with operational judgment, perfect for someone who can plan weekly production, coordinate crews and equipment, and step in when needed to keep jobs safe, efficient, and on track.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of site excavation, including sequence, timing, and what comes next.
  • Experience gained through working in the field.
  • Led crews of 15+ on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to keep people, equipment, and schedules in sync.
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and jump in alongside the crew.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using estimating/scheduling software
  • GPS experience, both in machinery and using data collector to set up jobs

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate weekly production schedules in partnership with the office, setting realistic goals that balance crew capacity, travel time, and equipment availability across multiple small to mid-size projects including clearing, demolition, site grading, utility installation, pave prep, and topsoil placement.
  • Meet with crews daily to confirm progress, identify delays early, and keep jobs on track, protecting both schedule and margin on projects where every hour counts.
  • Support crews when production slips, stepping in to troubleshoot, adjust workflow, or shift manpower and equipment to recover lost ground without compromising safety or quality.
  • Allocate equipment and resources to where they’re needed most each day, maximizing uptime and minimizing idle costs across dispersed job sites.
  • Leverage CloudRig and GPS data to track field performance, provide clear feedback, and reinforce accountability while helping refine systems for future jobs.
  • Remain local, with projects typically within an hour of Turbotville, PA.
