About The Position

As a Superintendent, you will lead field operations for GS Construction’s deep underground infrastructure projects, serving as the critical link between field crews and the project team. Our work ranges from new infrastructure installation on land development and commercial projects to the rehabilitation and replacement of existing water, sewer, and drainage systems. Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in deep underground utility construction, including 5+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Expertise in open-cut excavation, benching, trenching, and shoring and trench box systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience with SALUS, B2W, Samsara or similar field management software is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Safety certifications such as CSTS, First Aid/CPR, Ground Disturbance Level II, Confined Space Entry, and Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE) are considered assets.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation, upgrade, and replacement of underground water, sewer, and drainage systems, including tie-ins to live systems where projects connect to existing infrastructure. Ensure proper construction methods, using open-cut excavation, benching, or shoring and trench box systems as site conditions require.
  • Provide on-site leadership by directing and supporting Foremen in managing daily crew operations. Ensure the team is properly resourced, aligned with project goals, and focused on continuous improvement and safety.
  • Set the pace for daily production, monitoring progress against schedule and budget and adjusting crews, equipment, or plans to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Promote and uphold HSE standards with a focus on confined space entry, fall protection, trench safety, and traffic control. Work alongside the Safety Advisor during regular site visits to keep crews supported and address any concerns early.
  • Where work takes place on active roadways, coordinate with traffic control providers and ensure adherence to traffic accommodation plans and public safety requirements.
  • Serve as the primary connection between project management and field teams, ensuring clear communication of project plans, timelines, and objectives.
  • Collaborate with project managers to identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies that maintain safety, quality, and schedule.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, developers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors, addressing concerns and resolving issues promptly to support project success.
  • Confirm that installations meet design specifications and are ready for inspection and testing. Coordinate subcontractors through surface work and final acceptance.
