About The Position

This role involves supervising work on a designated area of a project, ensuring compliance with contract drawings and specifications. The Superintendent plans work methods, materials, equipment needs, and work schedules, and reviews these with direct reports. They are responsible for understanding project specifications, overseeing job setup, identifying hazardous areas with work crews and local utility companies, and presenting production work plans. This position coordinates with internal and external teams to ensure projects are adequately equipped and resourced within budget and schedule. The Superintendent forecasts work schedules, identifies potential issues, and provides technical or scheduling recommendations. They offer technical input to resolve project risks, document daily activities, and promote strict adherence to safety and process controls. Additionally, this role is involved in media communications, maintains community relationships, supervises sub-contractor production, and oversees project close-out activities. The Superintendent fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, which may include interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, appraising performance, and resolving issues.

Requirements

17+ years of heavy civil construction experience required, with at least 12+ years management experience in construction required.
Valid Driver’s License along with ability to meet criteria to drive on behalf of the company
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage teams of up to 7 people
Proven ability to manage complex construction projects using strong organization and multi-tasking skills.
Proven ability to manage difficult schedules and project demands while maintaining strict adherence to project safety program.
Developed expertise in a specialized construction type.
Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills required.
Strong leadership capability with internal drive to mentor and grow internal talent.
Advanced knowledge of construction site equipment operation and maintenance requirements.
Advanced knowledge of construction site safety protocols and proven ability to enforce project safety programs.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standards and contract specific plans and specifications.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals geometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Bachelor's Degree a considered a plus.
Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Supports superintendents, field engineering, and estimating to ensure project compliance with contract drawings and specifications.
Plans work methods, materials, equipment needs and work schedule for assigned project work.
Reviews daily or weekly work schedule with direct reports and updates monthly schedule from project feedback.
Reviews and understands the project specifications to oversee job set up activities.
Works with work crews, field engineers and local utility companies to identify hazardous areas on job site.
Presents production work plan during initial project meeting to ensure all project crews and leaders are in alignment.
Coordinates with internal and external teams to ensure that project work is equipped with appropriate equipment and material quantities to complete production within assigned budget and schedule.
Forecasts the work schedule to identify issues and provides technical or scheduling recommendations to mitigate production issues.
Provides technical input to identify and resolve project risks including construction methods, work plan and material requirements, safety, and schedule activities.
Documents daily activities and meeting notes using Company approved document methods.
Supports and promotes strict adherence to safety and process controls regarding operating equipment, worksite safety and documentation requirements.
Involved in all media communications and responsible to maintain community relationships using positive personal and company branding tools.
Supervises sub-contractor production and workforce regarding assigned project work.
Recommends work schedule or work method adjustments regarding sub-contractor activities, as needed.
Oversees project close out activities in line with Company standards and Owner checklist requirements.
Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the project’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplinary actions; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
