About The Position
The Superintendent of Traffic Signal Installation directs the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical traffic control devices and related equipment, and directs the activities of installation and maintenance work units. The position receives general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees work a conventional workweek and may be called back for emergency situations. Work is performed primarily in an office setting, though outdoor work sites may involve inclement weather and traffic hazards. The work requires minimal physical exertion.
Requirements
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years of experience in traffic signal device maintenance and installation, traffic engineering, or traffic investigation work, including two years of lead responsibilities such as assigning, reviewing, and approving others' work. Non-specialized experience or education may not substitute for the required specialized experience.
- Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or equivalent, and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. Provisional driver's licenses and learner permits are not acceptable.
- Knowledge of traffic control devices and systems.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical construction and steel pole installation.
- Knowledge of problems and conditions affecting a municipal traffic signal system and its operation.
- Administrative ability.
- Ability to maintain effective liaison with relevant agencies, utilities, organizations, and the public.
- Ability to develop and execute long- and short-range programs and policies.
- Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and compile budget proposals.
