About The Position

This is a senior-level position that oversees the overall operations of the street and sewer maintenance departments. The role involves preparing and establishing various work programs and procedures, directly and indirectly supervising employees in multiple groups within the SIMR division (SIMR garage, traffic, public parking, streets, and sewer maintenance), and preparing and administering the budget for the division's operational groups. A key aspect of this role is developing subordinates through coaching, training, guiding, evaluating, correcting, and disciplining.

Requirements

  • Skills in personnel management.
  • Skills in engineering and surveying procedures.
  • Knowledge of street and sewer locations.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office required.
  • Knowledge of asset management software required.
  • Knowledge of City, State, and Federal laws.
  • Knowledge of road construction and sewer construction procedures.
  • Knowledge of municipal budget procedures.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to drive a pickup or similar vehicle daily and operate radio.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in a related field preferred.
  • Five to seven years prior experience or any combination of formal education and work experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and approves specifications and bid documents for the acquisition of equipment and supplies.
  • Prepares and administers the annual budget for the five groups making up the division.
  • Performs personnel-related functions such as hiring, firing, and disciplining employees in the division.
  • Conducts field reviews of ongoing and proposed projects.
  • Supervises operations during emergency weather conditions.
  • Reviews, approves, and prioritizes work programs for the different groups within the division.
  • Administers asset management software.
  • Serves as a member of the county LEPC.
  • Is required to be on-call and/or carry a pager and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
