About The Position

The Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Lincoln is responsible for leading the diocese's Catholic schools toward a shared, vibrant vision of Catholic education. This role requires a unifier and an evangelizer who can build confidence among pastors, encourage principals, and foster a clear understanding of Catholic education among families. The position is part of a broader renewal effort within the Church's educational mission, aligning with Pope Leo XIV's vision and Bishop Conley's pastoral plan, which emphasizes education as a key pillar. The role involves significant time in the field, fostering relationships and promoting a sacramental lens in all aspects of education.

Requirements

  • Nebraska superintendent licensure (in progress or to be obtained)
  • Experience in Catholic education
  • Strong understanding of Catholic doctrine and intellectual tradition
  • Ability to unify and evangelize

  • Ability to rekindle imagination of families regarding Catholic education

Responsibilities

  • Carry the Diocese of Lincoln's schools from a position of strength into one shared, vibrant vision of Catholic education.
  • Operate from a shared, clearly articulated vision of Catholic education, grounded in orthodoxy and the Catholic intellectual tradition.
  • Align schools in curricular vision and implementation.
  • Function as a visible evangelizer for Catholic education, engaging parents and communities.
  • Work towards schools operating closer to capacity over five years.
  • Ensure the new federal tax-credit scholarship program is understood and actively used by families and donors.
  • Translate vision into priorities, timelines, support structures, and monitored implementation.
  • Equip CAO's and principals with resources, training, and ongoing support.
  • Work closely with CAOs and pastors on principal hiring and development.
  • Ensure schools operate on a sustainable financial footing, building practical models for distinct urban and rural economies.
  • Make documented, on-pace progress toward Nebraska superintendent licensure.
  • Meet Nebraska Department of Education accreditation-reporting obligations for every school.
  • Model openness to formation expected of the diocese's teachers.
  • Bring strong people-management to a large network of schools and staff.
  • Inspire and hold accountable priests, religious sisters, and lay principals.
  • Strengthen the network's day-to-day operational health year over year.
  • Lead the team spearheading renewal curriculum design, texts, and scope and sequence.
  • Oversee assessment strategy and accountability for academic outcomes.
  • Manage faculty formation and professional development.
  • Conduct instructional supervision, classroom observation, and coaching.
  • Oversee the academic calendar and instructional schedule.
  • Manage principal recruitment, selection, evaluation, development, and separation.
  • Set faculty hiring standards, mission-fit criteria, and interview protocol.
  • Manage the Office of Catholic Schools staffing structure.
  • Oversee enrollment marketing, recruitment, and family communication.
  • Lead advancement, major gifts, and donor relations.
  • Administer scholarship programs.
  • Oversee school policy and handbook adoption.
  • Manage the financial models offered to schools and parishes.
  • Oversee the Office of Catholic Schools operating budget.
  • Manage technology and data protection.
  • Serve as the day-to-day public representative of the schools.
  • Propose observable benchmarks rendered from the Bishop's vision and the Joy and Wonder of Catholic Education principles.
  • Propose compensation philosophy and salary scales, set with the CFO.
  • Propose diocesan tuition and financial-aid policy.
  • Propose the opening, closing, merging, or relocating of a school.
  • Propose chancery education positions.
  • Propose commitments above the set threshold or spanning fiscal years.
  • Prepare state and federal filings, accreditation reporting, and certification compliance for the Superintendent of Record's certification.
  • Support special education and student discipline determinations.
  • Support facilities, capital projects, and parish property.
  • Support insurance and risk, held by the CFO.
  • Support records and legal response, held by Counsel.
  • Inform Bishop Conley on all material personnel, legal, financial, or reputational matters, without delay.
