About The Position

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, provides school leadership support in the following areas: mission and Catholic identity, academic excellence, operational vitality, and governance and leadership. This position supports the mission of the Department of Catholic Schools by helping the schools maintain Catholic identity, academic excellence, viability, strong leadership, WCEA accreditation status and to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The assistant superintendent shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church
  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player
  • Be able to travel, and be available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology including word processing and the use of excel and related technology; ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment
  • The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check
  • Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance

Nice To Haves

  • Arizona State Certification – Principal, Superintendent preferred
  • Level I Ministry Certification or better preferred
  • Valid and current Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church; a school assistant principal may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Church.
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the assistant principal’s professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral structures.
  • Model faith formation by developing and maintaining a school program for all students that includes daily prayer, religion classes, Liturgy, and service.
  • Coordinate the administration of annual standardized testing for elementary schools.
  • Oversee the implementation and facilitation of the CARE process across all schools to ensure that individual student needs are effectively identified and addressed.
  • Oversee and ensure fidelity to the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework and exceptional education processes, promoting appropriate interventions, progress monitoring, and equitable access to services for all students.
  • Oversee the implementation of Assessment of Religious Knowledge (ARK) assessments for students in grades 2-12.
  • Provide coaching and professional development to school leaders on the analysis and use of assessment data to inform school goals and improve instructional practices.
  • Develop, maintain, can communicate a comprehensive calendar of professional development opportunities for school principals
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of principal meetings, retreats, and in-service sessions.
  • Support school leaders throughout the WCEA accreditation process, serving as a WCEA Commissioner.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Catechesis and Evangelization to collect and maintain Ministry Certification data for teachers and administrators.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and stay informed on federal programs to ensure Catholic schools receive equitable funding and services.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as diocesan policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Superintendent in policy review, grant writing, and other strategic initiatives as assigned.
  • Support the Superintendent in coordinating principal search processes, including candidate recruitment and interviews.
  • Assist with oversight and coordination of departmental contractors.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient office environment, including accurate record-keeping and file management for the Department of Catholic Schools.
  • Provide staff support to the Department of Catholic Schools as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate discretion regarding sensitive information.
  • Perform all duties with professionalism, integrity, and respect for the mission of Catholic education.
