About The Position

Skeena Gold + Silver is a Canadian mining company focused on revitalizing the Eskay Creek gold-silver mine in northwest British Columbia. The company is committed to industry leadership in reconciliation, diversity, and inclusion, working collaboratively with Indigenous partners. As a Mining Superintendent, you will lead all aspects of open pit mining activities for a high-grade gold and silver operation transitioning into production. This role is crucial for establishing operational readiness, implementing mining best practices, and safely delivering production targets. The focus is on maximizing ore recovery, minimizing dilution, and ensuring accurate ore classification and stockpiling from pit to plant. The position will oversee drill and blast, load-haul operations, ore control practices, and support infrastructure development, ensuring alignment with environmental compliance and project objectives.

Requirements

  • 15+ years in mining, or large earthworks
  • 10+ years in supervisory roles, including managing multiple crews
  • Must have BC Mine Shift Boss Certificate
  • Extensive experience in open pit mining operations, preferably in high-grade or complex orebodies (VMS experience considered an asset).
  • Strong background in selective mining methods, grade control, and ore segregation practices.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large crews and contractors in a production or project environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in drill and blast management, load-haul optimization, and mine startup/operational readiness.
  • Solid understanding of environmental compliance, particularly water management and ML/ARD practices.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop supervisors, operators, and contractors with a strong focus on disciplined execution and precision mining.
  • Establish and maintain a robust safety culture through compliance with all health, safety, and site procedures.
  • Develop and implement SOPs, standards, and systems supporting selective mining, ore control, and material classification.
  • Lead operational readiness planning ahead of first ore, including establishment of compliant mining systems and procedures.
  • Oversee ROM pad construction and stockpile setup, and support development of mine infrastructure such as haul roads, waste dumps, ore storage, and dewatering systems.
  • Manage all open pit production activities, including drill, blast, load, haul, and material placement.
  • Direct selective flitch mining to ensure compliance with dig limits, controlled excavation at ore–waste contacts, and rapid correction of deviations.
  • Provide oversight of drill and blast execution to support boundary control and selective excavation outcomes.
  • Coordinate closely with Geology to ensure effective real‑time ore control and field validation.
  • Own ore classification, segregation, and stockpiling from pit to Run –Of-Mine (ROM), ensuring grade integrity and preventing contamination.
  • Lead waste and ML/ARD material placement with strict segregation, accurate tracking, and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental and water management requirements and permitting obligations.
  • Maintain material tracking systems for tonnes, source, grade, stockpiles, and movement history.
  • Coordinate with Processing to align stockpile strategies with blending and mill feed requirements.
  • Monitor performance against production, cost, and schedule targets, driving improvement in ore recovery, dilution, dig compliance, and reconciliation accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Geology, Processing, and Environmental teams to ensure alignment between plan and field execution and provide clear reporting to senior management on performance and risk.
