About The Position

The STARS Center is seeking one to two graduate-level Hall Directors to support the residential component of the Summer Transition Program (STP), a two‑week, live‑in experience for incoming first‑year students. Hall Directors play a key leadership role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive residential environment while supporting students’ academic and social transition to the University. This position provides individuals with hands‑on professional experience in higher education by offering direct involvement in residential life operations, student supervision, crisis response, and transition programming for incoming first‑year students.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of student development principles and transition challenges faced by first-year college students, particularly first-generation and underrepresented populations.
  • Knowledge of residential life operations, including community standards, student conduct, and residence hall management practices.
  • Skill in supervising, mentoring, and supporting student staff (e.g., peer counselors) in a residential or programmatic setting.
  • Skill in communication, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with students, staff, and campus partners.
  • Ability to be available for employment from Monday, June 15th through Friday, July 17th, which includes: June 15th- June 23rd (Hall Director Orientation), June 24th - July 1st (Counselor Training) and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 17, 2026 (STP). This includes evenings and weekends.
  • Interest in pursuing a professional position in higher education, particularly in student affairs, residential life, and/or student transition programming.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a live‑in professional staff member responsible for overseeing the STP residential experience.
  • Supervise, support, and provide guidance to Summer Peer Counselors who serve as student mentors and program facilitators.
  • Assist with residence hall operations, including room issues, community standards, and student conduct concerns.
  • Respond to student needs, conflicts, and emergencies in collaboration with STARS Center staff and campus partners.
  • Support the implementation of social enrichment activities, community‑building initiatives, and structured peer engagement.
  • Model appropriate behavior and reinforce community expectations and university policies.
  • Participate in required training, planning meetings, and daily check‑ins with STARS Center staff.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support the success of the Summer Transition Program.
