About The Position

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for two (2) full-time, temporary Summer Teaching and Learning Students. Reporting to the Associate Director, Early Learning and K-12 Initiatives, or designate, the Summer Teaching and Learning Students will contribute to the development of educational resources, course materials, learning supports, and summer projects across the team. These roles will provide administrative, logistical, and project support for a range of Teaching and Learning initiatives, including resource development, professional learning, online learning supports, internal coordination, and community-facing materials. The successful candidates will be organized, adaptable, and detail-orientated, with strong communication skills and an interest in Métis education. These are summer term positions with an end date of August 28, 2026.

  • Proficient computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, and digital meeting platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort learning new tools, systems, and processes.
  • Political and cultural sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.
  • Currently pursuing or enrolled in post-secondary studies in Education or a related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in administrative support, education, communications, event coordination, or resource development is an asset.
  • School, volunteer, and community-based experience are considered valid experiences.
  • Experience working with children, youth, educators, or community programming is an asset.
  • Métis students only. This would include Citizens of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
  • Candidates must be between the ages of 17-29.
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in full-time post secondary education and must be returning to school full time in September 2026.
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
  • Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development, formatting, and organization of educational resources, lesson plans, presentations, handouts, and other learning materials.
  • Support the preparation and review of course materials, web content, and other Teaching and Learning resources.
  • Assist with summer planning, coordination, and logistics for professional learning session, meetings, events, and other team initiatives.
  • Help prepare resource packages, materials, supplies, and shipments for internal projects, partner organizations, educators, or community events.
  • Conduct background research and gather information to support resource development, program planning, and special projects.
  • Assist with drafting, editing, proofreading, and formatting documents, reports, forms, and communications materials.
  • Provide administrative support to the teaching and Learning Team, including scheduling, note-taking, file organization, data entry, and maintaining shared records.
  • Help maintain organized digital files, inventories, templates, and project tracking documents.
  • Support communication and cooperation with educators, partners, consultants, Knowledge Holders, and other stakeholders in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Assist with collecting feedback, organizing evaluation data, and preparing summary notes or reports.
  • Attend and support Education, Training, and Research initiatives as required.
  • Support other departmental priorities and perform other related duties as required or assigned.
