About The Position

Seabird Island is committed to culturally enriched learning experiences and creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment that respects and values Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and ways of being. They are seeking Summer Students to join their team in delivering a fun and engaging Summer Program for children aged 6–12. Under the direction of the Middle Years and Childcare Services Team Lead, Summer Students will provide guidance and support to children participating in the program. Responsibilities include leading recreational activities, promoting safety, and serving as positive role models. The program includes field trips, outdoor play, and learning. This is an exciting opportunity for secondary students to build leadership skills while making a meaningful impact in the community.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in fulltime Post Secondary School during 2025-2026 and returning fulltime in September 2026.
  • Responsible adult Certificate is required (or must be willing to obtain)
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, as well as the ability to effectively interact with children.
  • Will be responsible for child safety and may be required to lift children alone or in pairs.
  • Indigenous, status/non-status, on/off reserve who resides within the SASET catchment area
  • Must be willing to participate in physical activities.
  • Participants must be a minimum of 19 years old and have a SIN Number.
  • Must have a Bank account and a BC Services Card.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid, Babysitting, Food Safe, certificates would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of activities and experiences that reflect the needs of the children.
  • Assist in creating a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment—emotionally and physically—by contributing to flexible routines, accurate record keeping, family engagement, and the planning of developmentally appropriate programming.
  • Participate in daily operational tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, and general program setup and takedown.
  • Adhere to center procedures for maintaining health records and administering medication, under supervision.
  • Promptly report all accidents, injuries, or illnesses to the Supervisor and document incidents according to established procedures.
  • Follow reporting protocols for suspected cases of child abuse or neglect, in alignment with the center’s policies and in collaboration with the Supervisor.
  • Support the coordination and supervision of field trips and special daily events to ensure safety and enjoyment for all participants.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
