About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Summer Student to provide general administrative support, Thrift Store work, and groundskeeper duties for day-to-day operations. This role is crucial for maintaining the smooth functioning of the organization and serving the community. Requirements

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to telephone, in person, or electronic inquiries and forward them to the appropriate person.
  • Photocopy and collate documents for distribution, mailing, and filing.
  • Assist with administrative procedures within the MU or department.
  • Draft and prepare presentations (including PowerPoint, invitations, certificates).
  • Sort, process, and verify receipts, expenditures, forms, and other documents.
  • Scan, sort, and file documents according to established guidelines.
  • Assist with other related administrative tasks as required.
  • Greet and interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient and courteous customer service; use tact when dealing with difficult customers.
  • Be knowledgeable regarding product pricing and featured sale products; protect the integrity of all donated items.
  • Accurately complete all customer transactions including cash and debit sales with minimal voids, overages, or shortages.
  • Adhere to store policy regarding cheques, credit cards, refunds, voids, and holds.
  • Process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, hanging, pricing, and storing donations.
  • Assist with Janitorial work at the church and outside lawn care at the church and cemetery.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
