About The Position

The Student Research Assistant will assist with synthesis of quinone methide precursors for the reactivation of organophosphorus-inhibited and resurrection of organophosphorus-aged acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase. The candidate will be involved in the chemical synthesis, analytical characterization and the biochemical evaluation of novel drug-like therapeutics for the development of new medical countermeasures against organophosphorus poisoning.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Student Research Assistant to join our team. Requirements

• High school degree and pursuing a degree in chemistry or biochemistry
• Responsibilities will be moderate and less routine and will require responsibility and good judgement.
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work in a professional environment.
• Previous experience and knowledge or skill in student assistant role.

Responsibilities

• Assist with synthesis of quinone methide precursors for the reactivation of organophosphorus-inhibited and resurrection of organophosphorus-aged acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase.
• Involved in the chemical synthesis, analytical characterization and the biochemical evaluation of novel drug-like therapeutics for the development of new medical countermeasures against organophosphorus poisoning.
• Coordinate activities for other student employees.
• Provide excellent customer service.
