About The Position

This program offers various internship opportunities within Saudi Aramco's Houston Research Center, focusing on upstream and downstream operations. Interns will work alongside experienced scientists and engineers on cutting-edge research and development projects. Disciplines include Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Material Science, Geology, Geophysics, Physics, Biology, and Artificial Intelligence. The program aims to address upstream challenges in drilling, exploration, and production, as well as downstream challenges related to sustainable technologies, emissions reduction, and energy efficiency. Students will gain hands-on experience, develop technical skills, and contribute to significant industry projects, with opportunities for their work to be presented or published.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff in conducting R&D focused on challenges encountered by unconventional assets.
  • Support integration of laboratory, field, and modeling data to improve understanding and development of unconventional reservoirs.
  • Conduct laboratory measurements and experiments.
  • Organize, analyze, and integrate data gathered within R&D or from external laboratories.
  • Develop future drilling and workover technologies.
  • Work on sustainability projects including CO2 sequestration and hydrogen production.
  • Prepare and characterize drilling and cementing fluids.
  • Synthesize, characterize, and apply materials.
  • Operate intricate laboratory equipment.
  • Develop new oilfield measurement instruments from concept to field-tested prototypes.
  • Work on circuit design, firmware programming, and testing of sensor systems.
  • Perform mechanical design (Solid Works), additive manufacturing, and flow-loop testing for sensor systems.
  • Research and develop machine learning and artificial intelligence technology for upstream applications.
  • Develop and evaluate AI/ML models for upstream oil and gas applications.
  • Prepare, organize, and analyze structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Apply AI techniques such as computer vision, NLP, forecasting, anomaly detection, optimization, and physics-informed methods.
  • Assess model performance, uncertainty, feature importance, and comparisons with conventional workflows.
  • Convert research code into reusable, production-ready workflows and applications.
  • Support the development of AI-enabled decision-support tools, data pipelines, dashboards, and reporting solutions.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and developers to deploy digital technologies.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project demonstrations.
  • Conduct research on advances in surface and borehole seismic data processing and inversion.
  • Develop rock-physics enabled integrated geosolutions technologies for geophysical support.
  • Develop machine learning methods for geophysics.
  • Analyze borehole seismic and distributed acoustic sensing data.
  • Develop rock physics models for pore pressure prediction.
  • Assist senior engineers in technology identification, detailed review, and assessment.
  • Focus on Decarbonization, Carbon Circularity, and New Energies (Hydrogen) technologies.
  • Assist senior engineers in market intelligence reports.
  • Support coordination with 3rd Party technology providers.
  • Support in assembling the technical brief and technology reports.
  • Assist in required engineering simulations and calculations.
  • Support in preparation of presentation slides to management.
  • Advance sustainable technologies to address global emissions and improve energy efficiency.
  • Synthesize and characterize catalytic and adsorptive materials.
  • Operate advanced experimental systems and instrumentation.
  • Collect and analyze technical data.
  • Support process design and optimization efforts.
  • Develop novel materials – polymers, organic-inorganic hybrids, functionalization of materials.
