Summer Student - Child and Youth Worker
About The Position
This is an exciting chance to spend your summer making a positive impact in the lives of children! As a Child and Youth Summer Student, you’ll play an important role in supporting a fun, safe, and inclusive environment where kids feel cared for and engaged. You’ll gain hands-on experience working with children, develop strong communication and leadership skills, and be part of a supportive team that values creativity, connection, and play. From leading activities and helping with daily routines to encouraging healthy habits and social interaction, your days will be filled with meaningful moments and opportunities to grow—both personally and professionally.
Requirements
- Fluent in English
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, PR or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred and legally entitled to work
- Must NOT be an international student on a study permit or the holder of a work permit
- Required to obtain a clear Vulnerable/Criminal Record Check
- Required to present your social insurance number (SIN) upon hire

Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging events and activities for newcomer youth
- Support SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools) team with summer initiatives
- Assisting with Back-to-School workshops
- Helping families with school registrations and related tasks
- Assist with the promotion and outreach of youth programs to encourage participation and awareness
- Prepare materials and resources needed for youth events and workshops
- Maintain accurate attendance records and event feedback
- Support communication with newcomer families, as needed (by phone, email, or in-person)
- Collaborate with team members and community partners to ensure smooth delivery of summer programming
