About The Position

Reporting to the Program Lead, Next Generation- Ontario East, this position supports program staff running in person and/or virtual summer camps. The Child and Youth Worker ~Program Coordinator will assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of summer programs for children and youth that experience vision loss. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good technology awareness and computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Zoom.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing sight loss.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to travel independently within the region via public transit or car (taxi, Uber etc.).
  • Experience working with the general public.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of not-for-profit community resources is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of technical aids and devices for people with vision loss is an asset.
  • University or community college student preferred.
  • Related Fields of Study include social services, health studies, child and youth studies, disability studies, administration, communications, technology, customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Office availability (in-person) OR virtual as required by circumstance.
  • Research and arrange activities with third party organizations, recreational groups, and guest speakers.
  • Supervise program participants during recreational activities and outings.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of all children and youth summer programming as requested.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including parent/participant and community organizations correspondence and attendance records.
  • Respond to general inquiries regarding summer programs.
  • Ensure participants have all necessary materials in preferred accessible formats.
  • Assist in the recruitment of volunteers for summer camps and coordinate volunteer orientation session as well as required materials.
  • Arrange and accompany participants on day trips in the community.
  • Provide ongoing support to participants in a mentoring role.
  • Provide scheduled guests and speakers with Zoom links and relevant instructions.
  • Manage Zoom meetings including opening sessions, coordination of participants and monitoring of break out rooms as required.
  • Assist Guest Speakers with screen sharing and technical requirements.
  • Assist in providing supervision for individuals participating in programs as assigned.
  • Demonstrate assistive technology, including Voiceover and various apps for iPhone and iPad (instruction is provided).
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Takes initiative in providing information and assistance to participants regarding programs, and in providing administrative support to the office, and recognizes when a task needs to be completed.
