About The Position

This position will train to sit at multiple service points in the Reading Room, including the Circulation and Reception desks. The Ransom Center is an internationally renowned humanities research library and museum at The University of Texas at Austin. Its extensive collections provide unique insight into the creative process of writers and artists, deepening our understanding and appreciation of literature, photography, film, art, and the performing arts. Visitors engage with the Center's collections through research and study, exhibitions, publications, and a rich variety of program offerings including readings, talks, symposia, and film screenings.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a UT student. If not enrolled in 2026 summer semester courses, must have been enrolled in 6 hours of courses for Spring 2026 semester.
  • Must be able to work 20 hours per week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., M-F.
  • We require this individual to have a professional and helpful attitude, good communication skills, and an interest in learning about the humanities.

Responsibilities

  • Locates, shelves, and re-shelves manuscripts, books, and other collection materials for patron.
  • Enters and tracks location of materials in an automated circulation system.
  • Assists with paging of materials for classes, presentations, and other special projects.
  • Assists researchers with materials handling and locates missing materials.
  • Special projects as assigned.
