About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Summer Seasonal Cook to assist with meal preparation, planning, and service for facility events. This role is crucial in ensuring a safe and clean operational environment within the kitchen. The position involves preparing and serving meals according to ServSafe standards, tasting prepared items for quality, and assisting with meal service, including preparing late plates for clients. Responsibilities also include managing deliveries, maintaining kitchen cleanliness (trash removal, sweeping/mopping floors, cleaning worktables, stoves, ovens, and sinks), and adhering to safe food handling practices by wearing appropriate attire and equipment. The role requires maintaining professional relationships with clients, demonstrating respect and equality, attending staff meetings, assisting other departments as needed, and maintaining attendance in accordance with facility guidelines. The cook will contribute to a positive work environment and perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager, Camp Director, or their designee.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate understanding of safe food handling practices in industrial kitchen environment.
  • Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and field personnel.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Kitchen experience required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard
  • Must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and competency in using industrial and typical Kitchen Equipment and supplies (i.e. dishwashing machine, garbage disposal, 3-compartment sink, mop, bucket, broom, dustpan, trash bags, cleaning supplies, towels, apron, hair net, gloves, etc.)
  • If in recovery, must demonstrate a minimum of 1 year of social and emotional stability.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals at assigned times
  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with ServSafe standards
  • Taste all prepared items to ensure proper ingredients were used
  • Assist with meal service
  • Prepare late plates for clients
  • Ensure that deliveries are properly checked in and stored
  • Ensure the Kitchen is clean and in proper condition for next service
  • Trash removed
  • Floors mopped and swept
  • Worktables properly clean and sanitized
  • Stoves and ovens clean
  • Sinks clean
  • Wear appropriate attire and equipment for safe food handling at all times (Apron, Hair net, Gloves, Clean uniform, Closed toed, non-skid shoes)
  • Maintain a professional relationship with clients at all times
  • Demonstrate respect and equality
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Assist other departments as needed or directed
  • Maintain attendance in accordance with facility guidelines
  • Contribute to a positive work environment as a team member
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Food Service Manager, Camp Director and/or Designee
