Summer Residential Assistant
About The Position
All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. This position involves tutoring, assisting teachers with interventions, serving as a residential assistant during the residential week of the summer component, supervising participants, attending daily debriefing meetings, and communicating with participants to encourage continuation of secondary and post-secondary studies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Previous experience working with disadvantaged students is desirable.

Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
- Tutor summer component Upward Bound participants as needed.
- Assist summer component teachers with providing supplemental and intense interventions to Upward Bound participants.
- Serve as residential assistants during the residential week of the summer component.
- Supervise UB participants during the summer component.
- Attend daily debriefing meetings with the residential group.
- Communicate with participants to encourage the continuation of secondary and post-secondary studies.
